Celebration of Twin Holy Birthdays of The Báb and Bahá’u’lláh: Friday Nov 9, 2018

Baha’i community of Ajax extend a warm invitation to you and your family to join us in celebration of an occasion which is unique and precious in the history of humanity.  Their Birthdays are on two consecutive days – two years apart. Bahá’u’lláh was born in 1817 and The Báb was born in 1819.  2019 will mark the Bicentenary of the Birth of The Báb.

This year the Twin Holy Birthdays of the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh will be celebrated in one evening on Nov 9, 2018

“Let your vision be world embracing…” — Bahá’u’lláh

Throughout history, God has sent to humanity a series of divine Educators—known as Manifestations of God—whose teachings have provided the basis for the advancement of civilization. These Manifestations have included Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad. Bahá’u’lláh, the latest of these Messengers, explained that the religions of the world come from the same Source and are in essence successive chapters of one religion from God.

The Bahá’í Faith began with the mission entrusted by God to two Divine Messengers—the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh. Today, the distinctive unity of the Faith They founded stems from explicit instructions given by Bahá’u’lláh that have assured the continuity of guidance following His passing. This line of succession, referred to as the Covenant, went from Bahá’u’lláh to His Son ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, and then from ‘Abdu’l-Bahá to His grandson, Shoghi Effendi, and the Universal House of Justice, ordained by Bahá’u’lláh. A Bahá’í accepts the divine authority of the Báb and Bahá’u’lláh and of these appointed successors.

Bahá’ís believe the crucial need facing humanity is to find a unifying vision of the future of society and of the nature and purpose of life. Such a vision unfolds in the writings of Bahá’u’lláh.

We would love to celebrate this wonderful occasion with as many of our friends and neighbors in our community. Kindly drop us a line if you plan to join us .

Public Session on: Transformative power of the Bahá’í Faith—“A Widening Embrace” Sept 16, 2018

Across the globe, followers of Bahá’u’lláh and their friends are striving in earnest to contribute to the well-being of their communities and the advancement of society. A Widening Embrace captures some experiences and insights from a selection of neighbourhoods and villages, in rural and urban settings. Here, a process of building vibrant communities is unfolding through individual and collective action propelled by a commitment to learning, in the words of Bahá’u’lláh, how to translate that which hath been written into reality and action.”

This public session will focus on the process of building vibrant communities in every neighbourhood. We will also watch together a short segment of the new documentary called “A Widening Embrace”

— An innovative new documentary film about the community-building efforts of the Baha’i world, as seen through the eyes of local populations, was released today on Bahai.org.
A Widening Embrace has been produced through a creative, grassroots process in which teams of often young people have documented the efforts of their own communities around the world to effect social change.

Drawing on footage taken by those teams over the course of a year, the film tells a story of transformation unfolding in 24 communities representing different realities and contexts. It focuses on three main themes: universal participation as a path toward collective prosperity, the vital role of young people in the transformation of society, and the emergence of a range of social and economic development initiatives that spring up from the spiritual aspirations of a population.

While one outcome of the film project is the documentary itself, another important dimension is the capacity that has developed in numerous local populations to document and describe what their communities are doing and learning in the context of social progress.

The event is open to all and everyone is welcome.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Sunday Sept 16, 2018.

Public Session on: Spiritual but not Religious—Are We Missing the Plot? Aug 18, 2018

The phrase “spiritual but not religious” has become a cliché, but it describes a deeply serious concern – that adopting and practicing a religion actually risks making you less spiritual.
Multiple surveys have shown that a significant portion of Americans – somewhere between one-tenth to almost a third of the adult population – describe themselves as spiritual but not religious (SBNR). In one survey, 72% of young, Generation Y Americans identified as SBNRs. This growing group, known as the unchurched or just as spiritual seekers, generally believes in a Creator but views God differently than the fundamentalist religious factions. They tend to think of the old forms of religion as bound by dogma, doctrine and ritual, instead of encouraging the deep feelings, powerful insights and connection with the mystical that our minds, hearts and souls yearn to make.

The Baha’i teachings powerfully support this contemporary view, saying that the core of religious faith is the mystic feeling that unites man with God – simply renewed to address the needs of each age in which it exists. All religions, Baha’is believe, is a single system of progressively-revealed faiths, and the Prophets and Messengers who established those faiths teach the same essential truths. That one mystic faith, the Baha’is believe, is renewed throughout history:

In the beginning the tree was in all its beauty, and full of blossoms and fruits, but at last it became old and entirely fruitless, and it withered and decayed. This is why the True Gardener plants again an incomparable young tree of the same kind and species, which grows and develops day by day, and spreads a wide shadow in the divine garden, and yields admirable fruit. So it is with religions; through the passing of time they change from their original foundation, the truth of the Religion of God entirely departs, and the spirit of it does not stay; heresies appear, and it becomes a body without a soul. That is why it is renewed. – Abdu’l-Baha, Some Answered Questions

A modern belief system that emphasizes unity, fellowship and harmonious interaction with everyone, the Baha’i Faith teaches the deep spiritual inter-connectedness of humanity and the essential oneness of all religions. Baha’is believe that the teachings of Baha’u’llah, the founder of the Baha’i Faith, comprise that modern renewal of religion.

If you think of yourself as spiritual more than religious, you may want to investigate the Baha’i Faith and its teachings further. Increasingly, spiritually-minded people are becoming Baha’is and taking part in the warm, diverse community life the Baha’is are building. Baha’is don’t proselytize or force their beliefs on others, and there is no Baha’i clergy, which means you can conduct your own independent investigation, and come to your own conclusions. The Baha’i teachings and writings are universally available online, in print and in just about every language. They offer an expansive, joyful and beautifully spiritual path to a unified global community and a profoundly positive, progressive message of love, unity and peace.

The event is open to all and everyone is welcome.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Saturday Aug 18.

Public Session: Junior Youth empowerment program July 15, 2018

The Baha’i community of Ajax has planned a series of public events at the Ajax Main Library (Rotary room), offering information sessions about various community building activates that are underway. These events are providing  space for everyone to participate and contribute to the discourse and betterment of our neighborhoods.

All As One

The event on Sunday July 15  from 2-4 PM,  is focusing once again on the importance of Junior Youth Empowerment program.

There will be a brief presentation about the JY program followed by a short video clip followed by general Q&A and open discussion.

The Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program trains teens and young adults to mentor younger peers aged 12 to 15.

Here is a short clip about the (JYSEP):

The Junior Youth Empowerment Program is a global movement inspiring young people, parents, and community members to work together toward a better world.

Falling between the ages of 12 and 15 and representing a transition from childhood to youth, young adolescents—referred to as “junior youth”—experience rapid physical, intellectual, and emotional changes. Their spiritual powers expand. A new level of awareness fosters in them an increased interest in profound questions and in their talents and abilities. During this short and critical three-year period, ideas about the individual and society that may very well shape the rest of their lives are formed. However, delight at these new powers is often combined with feelings of worry, discomfort, and doubt that may produce contradictions in behaviour. Directing their new abilities towards selfless service to humanity is therefore needed at this age.

The event is open to all and everyone is welcome.

There is also no cost or fees to join JY program.

We are looking forward to seeing you on July 15.

Early Adolescence :

Worldwide, junior youth are participating in an endeavour that strives to give them a voice in today’s society. These junior youth groups are enhancing their power of expression, sharpening their spiritual perception and allowing them to analyse the constructive and destructive forces of society.

Who Participates in These Groups?

The participants of this group are junior youth between the ages of 12 and 15. This is a crucial period of a junior youth’s life as their consciousness is expanding and, day by day, they are becoming increasingly exposed to the forces of society.
The older youth that acts as a guide to the junior youth is referred to as an “Animator”. The role of an Animator is to assist the junior youth in developing their capacities, encouraging them to contribute to the betterment of society as well as encouraging them to question the world around them. Most importantly, an Animator must strive to become a true friend to the junior youth.

How Can Junior Youth Groups Make a Difference?

Junior youth groups can make a significant difference in communities, neighborhoods, villages and even the world at large! When junior youth become spiritually empowered, they take on tremendous amounts of responsibility to contribute to the betterment of society. A junior youth group has the potential to change their surroundings through the service projects that they do, keeping in mind that change is most sustainable when their efforts are consistent. With countless groups around the globe, youth are already moving the world!

We are looking forward to seeing you at the event.
